Civil Air Patrol C/2Lt Courtenay Franklin
US Marine Corps 2Lt Courtenay Franklin

Courtenay joined CAP in 2005 at age 17. He attended many CAP events including Encampment, Cadet Survival School, and Cadet Officers Basic Course. In 2009 he reached the rank of C/2Lt. In December 2008 Courtenay was accepted to the Marine Corps’ Platoon Leaders Course and attended Officer Candidates School in the summer of 2009. In 2010 he was accepted to UCR. Courtenay finished his last summer of OCS in 2012, and in 2013 graduated from UCR with a degree in physics and received his commission as a 2nd Lt in the Marine Corps. Courtenay is currently in primary flight training in Corpus Christi, Texas where he hopes to fly the A/V-8B Harrier.

Civil Air Patrol C/2Lt Michael Benner
US NAVY ENSIGN MICHAEL BENNER

Michael started in CAP in 2008 at 16 years old. He went to plenty of ILPs and events as a student and as staff. Michael got his C/2Lt (Mitchell) 2 years later. Michael started flying with the March Aero Club in summer 2008, soloed in November 2008, and received his private pilot certificate on 6 June 2009. He was accepted to UCLA and the Navy ROTC. Michael graduated as an astrophysicist and commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy in June 2014. He is currently in his second phase of flight school in Corpus Christy Texas. He plans to fly the E/A-18G and eventually become an astronaut. The picture on the right shows Ens Benner hanging out with who he hopes will be a future co-worker as a part of the Blue Angels.

 

If you or someone you know were, or had a cadet or young senior member that was in Squadron 45 and went on to some sort of military option. Please send me the following so I can get you posted on this page.

Please send me a picture of the related person as young as possible in CAP uniform, and then in Military or academy uniform.
